Monitoring

Recent studies have shown that high blood pressure doesn’t have to be associated with getting older. It’s more related to our lifestyle and daily habits than with our age.

The main causes of high blood pressure are inactivity, processed foods high in salts, high sugar intake and stress.

BP is measured as diastolic or bottom and systolic or top.

Bottom number is the pressure in the arteries when your heart rests and top number indicates the pressure when the heart is beating or how hard your heart has to work. People under fifty years of age typically need to look out for this bottom number.

For people over fifty it is the top number that they need to watch. This top number can actually measure artery blockage. As we age, the arteries close to heart stiffen due to plaque buildup and it is the basic cause of heart attack.

Tomorrow hopefully I’ll discuss the vital body parameters that you need to keep an eye on.
