Ketogenic Diet, or just Keto diet, is well-known for being a low-carb diet that can help you burn fats quickly. It has many benefits for health and weight loss. The idea is that you get more calories from fats and proteins being burned and less from carbohydrates.
When you are on a Keto diet, your body is going through a process called Ketosis. Ketosis is natural process the body goes through when food intake is low. During this state, our body burns fats and produces ketones when our body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates to use as energy.
After my 30-day exercise challenge, I have decided to undergo another challenge: the keto diet. It’s not easy at first, but as I do it every day, my body is feeling hearty. I feel lighter and energized.
What should we eat while on a keto diet?
Even though I am not going to focus on foods with much carbohydrates, it doesn’t mean that I will not have energy to survive each day. The lower the number of carbs, the more effective this diet will be. In this diet, I will be leaning more on healthy fats, lean proteins, and leafy vegetables, as well as other non-starchy veggies.
In doing a keto diet, you need to plan ahead. My goal is for my body to enter ketosis state as soon as possible. And to do this, I need to make sure that I eat foods with less carbs. As much as possible, I just need to consume around 50g of carbs per day. The lesser, the better. Remember, your keto diet must consist of 75% fats, 20% protein, and 5% carbs.
When I am preparing my everyday food, I make sure to avoid foods that are high in carbohydrates like grains, sugar, fruits, and tubers. I cook meats like chicken, and have nuts as snacks. It seems as if it is not much, but every time I eat these foods, I feel hearty.
What are the benefits of a keto diet?
Originally, Keto diet is given to patients who are going through some treatments. But, it is one of the top diets people do. Anyone can benefit from this low-carb, high fat diet. This diet have many benefits health and weight-wise.
First, of course, is weight loss. You reduce your daily intake of carbohydrates since the foods included in a keto diet will make you feel full quickly. It will be difficult at first, but if your body get used to this, it will feel energized and hearty as well.
It also controls your blood sugar and cholesterol level, and lowers your blood pressure. As you lose weight, all of these will be in normal level. Do this diet with exercise, for sure you will feel healthy.
Dieting is never easy. Especially, if you really love eating and hate exercising. But this diet is worth trying. I thought it is difficult since there are many foods to avoid, but there are recipes that is similar to what I usually have, but healthier version. I can still have a sandwich with chocolate spread, but with less sugar.
Just keep in mind that our goal is to be healthy. Once your mind is already focused on something, you can achieve it and #feelhearty. Keep safe.
